ZOMBIE CRAWL invades Mount Dora Craft Fair. Yikes!

"Cannibals prefer those who have no spines" Stanislaw Lem

I was concerned and nervous when the idea was brought up..ZOMBIES at the 25th annual Mt Dora Craft fair...ZOMBIES ?! wtf?
As one of the new organizers of the Mount Dora Craft Fair I was a bit shocked when the idea was brought up to spice up our event.
This was our 25th annual Mt Dora Craft Fair in our homey little town of Mount Dora, Fl.

What in the world was this new group running
MDVMBA thinking? Zombies??  What about "blood" getting on our visitors? What about heart attack concerns? What about possible lawsuits? What about the children?
Was it really a good idea to have a mob of crazy teenagers..or worse yet, drunk psychos from the fringe of society lurking and lunging at our guests? What are the old MDVMBA board members,
the Mount Dora Chamber of commerce, and the city of Mount Dora govt going to think of us now? There's already a touch of disconnect between our groups so this may just put the nail on the coffin and seal our insanity.
Playing the devils advocate, I voted "No" on the idea. I am the voice of reason in my own mind...
Keep in mind I am also willing to see both sides and will support any cause to promote Mount Dora if the majority sees and convinces me the good outweighs the bad.
I was immediately assured the make up would be professionally done by Mike B Make-up of Universal Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and would only be on the face and applied dry, not dripping...The "zombies" were not allowed to touch anyone and would walk straight through the crowd. Zombie crawls are at the forefront of current culture and would be a huge mainstream media draw. The "zombies" would also wear T shirts representing our
MDVMBA merchant members to help promote them. Ok NOW we're talking promotion here... so I am on board with this thing...

I spent the day helping the zombies get organized and took raw footage for a video I was going to make on the event. It turned out to be well organized and the craft fair crowd took photos and laughed and followed along. It was amazing to see the variety of volunteers who came out. Young, old, fat, skinny, black, white, asian, male, female..all shapes and sizes.
So the point is I guess in the "end" we really are all the same.
We all have similar goals. We all want to belong. We all want to have fun. . We have so many groups in town organizing and promoting different events and there are so many different personalities involved.... We don't always agree on how we should promote and execute. We need to be open minded enough to see the big picture and work together to support our common cause. Lets just have fun and get Mount Dora on the map!

Yay for Mount Dora! The 2009 Craft Fair was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen!
